Troy Nahumko is an award-winning author based in Caceres, Spain. His recent work focuses on travels around the Mediterranean, from Tangier to Istanbul. As a writer and photographer he has contributed to newspapers and media such as Lonely Planet, The Globe and Mail, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Toronto Star, The Irish World, The Straits Times, The Calgary Herald, Khaleej Times, DW-World and El Pais. He also writes a bi-weekly op-ed column 'Camino a Ítaca' for the Spanish newspaper HOY. As an ESL materials writer he has worked with publishers such as Macmillan and CUP.

Lunch in Monsanto

2009 has been a year of Deep Travel, delving further into places rather than just skipping on to the next. With this in mind, a Saturday road trip turned into a visit to another country.

Granted Portugal is just over 100kms from here, I don't seem to visit the country that doesn't exist on Spanish weather maps as often as I should. After Saturday's lunch at Restaurante Petiscos e Granitos in Monsanto, I hope to remedy this oversight and dive deep into the neighbouring area while enjoying a lovely glass of Beirao liqueur more often.
